A bill expanding gun rights takes a big step forward.  The state Senate approved the measure, which allows you to carry a loaded handgun in your car without a concealed carry permit.  Under current law, an unlicensed gun must be unloaded, and out of reach.   The bill's sponsor, Sen. Scott Beason (R-Gardendale), says he wants to make it easier for people who open-carry.   He says people should not have to pay for a pistol permit, to exercise their Second Amendment rights.  Beason says it's the last bill he'll pass as a state Senator, since he's giving up his seat to run for Congress.
