A major announcement affecting high school athletics was made Wednesday. For the first time in 30 years, the Alabama High School Athletic Association is introducing a sweeping reclassification. Starting this fall, the state's largest schools will play football in a new class: 7A. In greater Birmingham, this includes Hoover, Vestavia, Spain Park, Oak Mountain, Hewitt-Trussville, Mountain Brook, and Thompson. The association says the reclassification will give more schools a shot at making the playoffs.
