Guilty Plea in Jeffco Tag Line Scandal

Guilty Plea in Jeffco Tag Line Scandal
Posted Monday, March 10th 2014 @ 3pm

A fired Jefferson County employee has pleaded guilty to taking cash, in return for allowing people to skip to the front of the car tag line. Alisha Cole Monday admitted her role in the scandal, which resulted in the firing of three workers. Cole's attorney, Ed Odum, questioned whether taxpayers were well served. "The state ... spent a lot of time and a lot of money on a lady that -- on her lunch hour -- made $20 bringing somebody a tag," Odum said. Prosecutors were expected to recommend a two year sentence, in exchange for the plea. Her sentencing is scheduled for April 25. Another suspect, LaShonda Smaw, pleaded not guilty. A third person charged in the case, Jozette Berry, has not entered a plea. Both are due back in court in July.
