The Rev. Richard Shahan returned to face charges in the murder of his wife. Shahan, a former associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Birmingham, made no comment as he was led into the Jefferson County Jail Wednesday. Shahan was extradited from Nashville, where authorities arrested him as he tried to board a flight to Germany on New Year's Day. His lawyer says Shahan was departing on a mission trip. But Homewood police said they were concerned Shahan might head to Russia, which might not send Shahan back. Shahan's lawyer said he will seek to have him released on bond.
