Tuberville Leads in Alabama Senate Poll

Former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville surged into the lead in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, a new poll showed. The survey, commissioned by the conservative Club for Growth, gave Tuberville 32 percent of the vote. Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had led in earlier polls, fell to second place, with 29 percent. Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-Fairhope) held steady at 17 percent. The DC-based group has been running ads attacking Byrne. The poll is consistent with other surveys indicating Tuberville and Sessions, who held the seat for two decades, likely to advance to a GOP runoff. The winner will face Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook), who is widely considered to be the most endangered Senate Democrat running this year. The primary is Mar. 3. The poll was conducted Feb.18-19 among likely Republican voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4%.
