A fugitive inmate in Georgia, Timothy Shane, used an Uber to escape authorities after fleeing from Grady Hospital in Atlanta on Monday (December 1). Shane, 52, had been taken to the hospital for a medical examination following a suicide attempt but managed to escape custody at around 1:20 a.m. According to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, Shane is considered armed and dangerous.
Shane's escape follows a series of criminal activities, including a high-speed chase and a possible kidnapping attempt on November 23. Initially arrested by the Conyers Police Department, Shane was involved in a pursuit that spanned county lines and ended with his capture. During the chase, Shane reportedly drove at speeds exceeding 128 miles per hour and was found with marijuana, methamphetamine, and a loaded handgun.
After his escape from Grady Hospital, Shane allegedly stole an SUV, which he later crashed before fleeing on foot. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Shane ordered an Uber to a residence in south Rockdale, but he was not found when authorities executed a search warrant at the location.
Shane's criminal charges include operating a vehicle without insurance, reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of methamphetamine. He also faces multiple warrants in Newton County for charges such as hijacking a motor vehicle and armed robbery.
As of Tuesday (December 2), Shane remains at large. Authorities urge anyone with information on Shane's whereabouts to contact the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office at 770-278-8000.
