North Korea Claims Nuclear Site Demolished

North Korea claims to demolish nuclear testing site

Just hours before President Donald Trump cancelled a planned summit between the United States and North Korea's Kim Jong-Un, North Korea claimed to have demolished its only known nuclear test site where the country had conducted its six nuclear tests.

Trump told reporters Thursday morning that he canceled the summit because of "the tremendous anger and open hostility" North Korea had been sending out in recent statements.

North Korea allowed a select group of journalists from Britain, China, South Korea, the U.S. and Russia to observe as their engineers rigged explosives to destroy and close tunnels at the mountainous Punggye-ri test site where the country tested its nuclear weapons over the last fifteen years.

Facilities used to observe nuclear tests were also destroyed, as were barracks used to house site personnel and a metal foundry reports said

Independent outside nuclear monitors were not invited to verify whether the site had been dismantled. Some analysts say the moves could be reversible in a few years should the North decide to restart its nuclear test program.
