Three Men Charged in Montgomery Brawl

Montgomery police Tuesday announced charges for three men in connection with a brawl at the city's Riverfront. Richard Roberts, 48, Allen Todd, 23, and Zachary Shipman, 25, were each charged with third degree assault, a misdemeanor, Police Chief Darryl Albert said. The fight began Saturday evening after the owners of a docked pontoon boat refused to yield the space to an incoming riverboat, the Harriott II, Albert said. When the co-captain of the Harriott came to the dock attempting to resolve the standoff, the owners of the pontoon boat confronted the co-captain in a hostile manner, leading to the brawl, Albert said. Brushing aside speculation on social media, the chief said there was no evidence that the incident was racially motivated. Police are asking 42-year old Reggie Gray, seen attacking a woman with a chair, to contact investigators. The chief said additional charges are expected.
