Following some high-profile membership losses, the Business Council of Alabama Thursday began its search for a new leader. The business lobbying group says it hopes to name a chief executive officer by September first. BCA chairman Perry Hand says a search will begin immediately. Alabama Power, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, and Regions Bank all pulled out of the group after the BCA rejected calls to remove longtime president Bill Canary, amid concerns he had become ineffective. But BCA leaders made it clear that they wanted a more orderly transition, with Canary remaining on the job until a successor is found.
