A promising Alabama football player has been dropped from the Crimson Tide. Head Coach Nick Saban announced the dismissal of freshman linebacker VanDarius Cowan for violating team rules.
Cowan was seen on video assaulting a patron at a bar in Tuscaloosa. The incident appears to be unprovoked.
Saban says VanDarius has "failed to represent Alabama in a first-class way and this can't be tolerated".
The former player is facing a misdemeanor assault charge in Tuscaloosa.
