An armed carjacking in Homewood touched off a wild chase on Thursday, that included several wrecks. Authorities say the crook stole the car from a woman at gunpoint on Oxmoor Road near Saw's BBQ shortly before 3 p.m. Police spotted the red Corvette on Valley Avenue, and the chase began. Police pursued the car onto I-65, and through the streets of downtown Birmingham. The crook caused three crashes before he jumped out at Carraway Boulevard, and ran into the woods, police said. The man was caught a short time later. No injuries were reported, but the Corvette sustained significant damage.
