Shelby Cautions Against Shutdown

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa) Thursday said he cautioned President Trump against a partial government shutdown over funding for the border wall.   Shelby and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) met with the President at the White House, hoping to resolve a feud over funding for the wall.    The president wants $5 billion, but Democrats have balked, and threaten to filibuster a spending bill, setting up a possible shutdown.    The deadline is  December 7th.   Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shelby -- chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee --  expressed optimism about getting an agreement.
