UA Returns $21 Million Dollar Donation

The University of Alabama Friday returned a $21.5 million dollar donation, and removed the donor's name from the law school, following a dispute with the donor. Hugh Culverhouse Jr. recently called for a boycott of the University, citing Alabama's new abortion law. UA officials said the dispute had nothing to do with passage of law, in which the University had no role. It was rather Culverhouse's attempts to interfere in the operations of the law school that led to Friday's action by the UA System Board of Trustees, administrators said. "Donors do not dictate the administration of the University of Alabama," Chancellor Finis "Fess" St. John said. "For these reason, and for these reasons alone, it is my recommendation that we return this donor's gift in their entirety ... and restore the name of the law school to The University of Alabama School of Law."
