Reaction was pouring in Tuesday, following the murder of a Tuscaloosa policeman. Officer Dornell Cousette, 40, was gunned down Monday night while trying to arrest a fugitive in the city's West End. Gov. Kay Ivey says "Alabama has lost one of her heroes." Ivey says she was "devastated" to learn of the officer's death. Ivey called for flags across Alabama to fly at half-staff in honor of the fallen lawman, a 13-year veteran of the force. Mayor Walt Maddox asked "that the city of Tuscaloosa keep Officer Cousette and his family in their prayers.” U.S. Attorney Jay Town says the officer's "end of watch has come too soon." Town says "it's yet another heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our brave men and women of the badge face daily." The suspect, whose name has not been released, was in the hospital being treated for injuries received in the shootout. Authorities say he had a long list of outstanding warrants.
