"The 25 number has been gradually going down," County Health Officer Dr. Mark Wilson said, adding that last week he recommended a higher number. "We've come a long way since then," Wilson said. The county also ordered all restaurants to close dining rooms, allowing takeout only; all private schools must close effective Thursday; Most visits to nursing homes are prohibited. The orders are legally binding, and will be enforced, Wilson said. The restrictions were announced as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Alabama rose to 29, including 17 in Jefferson County.
