Murdered Moody Policeman Honored

Flags were flying at half-staff across Alabama Monday, as mourners gathered to honor the life of slain Moody police Lt. Stephen Williams. An overflow crowd filled the First Baptist Church of Moody for the service, while hundreds of residents lined the funeral procession route, waving American flags, as the hearse carrying the lawman's body passed by. In his eulogy, Williams's oldest son, Lake, a recent graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, recalled how his father instilled confidence during moments of self-doubt. Williams, 50, was shot while responding to a disturbance call last week at the Super 8 Motel. The suspects, Tapero Johnson and Marquisha Tyson of Birmingham, are charged with capital murder. A judge ordered the couple held without bond during a court appearance Monday.
