Harvey Updyke Dies

Harvey Updyke, the notorious Alabama football fan who poisoned the oak trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner, died Thursday. Updyke died of natural causes at his home in Louisiana, according to his son Bear. He was 71. Updyke stunned and outraged college football fans after announcing he poisoned the trees following the Tigers' win in the 2010 Iron Bowl. Auburn cut down and replaced the trees, after efforts to save them proved unsuccessful. Updyke later pleaded guilty to a felony, and spent more than 70 days in jail. He also was ordered to pay $800 thousand dollars in fines and restitution, but had paid only a fraction of that amount as of late last year.
