An armed suspect was shot and killed on Wednesday evening by Birmingham police in Avondale, authorities said. Interim police chief Scott Thurmond said officers were involved in an altercation with a man, which led to the shooting shortly before 6 p.m. along Morris Ave. Thurmond said a gun was recovered at the scene. He said additional information will be released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, which is leading the investigation.
