Legislature Approves Constitutional Carry

Lawmakers Thursday gave final approval to a bill allowing Alabamians to carry a concealed firearm without a pistol permit. The Alabama House voted 70-29 to concur with a conference committee report. The Senate followed a short time later, by a vote of 24-6. The votes fell mostly along party lines, with most Republicans supporting the measure, and most Democrats opposed. Gov. Kay Ivey signed the bill into law Thursday afternoon. “Unlike states who are doing everything in their power to make it harder for law abiding citizens, Alabama is reaffirming our commitment to defending our Second Amendment rights,” said Governor Ivey. “I have always stood up for the rights of law abiding gunowners, and I am proud to do that again today.”
