Attempted Murder Charge in Pelham Pursuit

A man was facing attempted murder charges, after he fired on officers during a pursuit, Pelham police said Tuesday.   John Mason was pulled over on Valleydale Road Monday night, because of a tail light violation, police said.  After running his name, officers say they determined Mason was wanted on domestic violence charges.  That's when the man drove away, touching off a high-speed chase, investigators said.   The vehicle chase ended in the Lowe's parking lot, where police say Mason ran off, firing shots at pursuing officers.   Mason was later captured by Hoover police and tracking dogs.   He was charged with attempted murder and other crimes, and was being held on $137,000 bond at the Shelby County Jail.  "Our officers put their lives on the line every time they report for work," Pelham police chief Larry Palmer said.   "An attack on a police officer is not going to be tolerated."
