Air Force One turned around shortly after taking off for President Donald Trump's flight to Davos, Switzerland, Tuesday (January 20) night after experiencing "a minor technical issue," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters via ABC News.

The presidential plane was set to land at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, at which point Trump and others traveling with him would board a different aircraft and resume their travel to Switzerland for the global economic conference, which will serve as the president's first international trip of 2026. Trump is reportedly expected to speak on his desire to take over Greenland during the conference in Davos, which will put him at odds with other NATO countries, and lead the largest U.S. delegation to the World Economic Forum, event organizers confirmed to ABC News.

Trump leaked private messages from other world leaders while claiming there was "no going back" on his campaign to seize Greenland from Denmark on his Truth Social account overnight, which included a friendly message from French President Emmanuel Macron in which he's addressed as "My friend."

Macron claimed he does "not understand what you are doing on Greenland" and suggest they "try to build great things" by setting up a G7 meeting with Ukrainian, Danish, Syrian and Russian officials in Paris after his already scheduled visit to Switzerland, as well as having dinner together before the president returns to the U.S. Trump also leaked a message from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in which Rutte praised him for "what you accomplished in Syria" and said he was "committed to finding a way forward on Greenland."

The president had previously shared an earlier message claiming he had a very good call with Rutte regarding Greenland ahead of their agreed upon meeting in Davos this week.

"There can be no going back — On that, everyone agrees!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Earlier this month, Leavitt confirmed in a statement to CNN that Trump was "discussing a range of options" to acquire Greenland and hadn't ruled out the use of military in doing so.

“President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it’s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region,” Leavitt said. “The President and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the U.S. Military is always an option at the Commander in Chief’s disposal.”

Leavitt's statement followed Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who told lawmakers that the Trump administration was considering buying Greenland while downplaying concerns about potential military intervention this week, two sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to CNN. Trump has long had aspirations related to acquiring Greenland, specifically early in his second administration, and officials reportedly continued to discuss the situation behind the scenes, despite it not being mentioned as frequent publicly in recent months.

The State Department reportedly provided analysis of untapped resources in Greenland at the request of Rubio's team, which included rare earths, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to CNN. Trump has since revamped interest in expansionist foreign policy in the days following the United States' capture of Maduro.

“We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security, and Denmark is not going to be able to do it,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on January 4, one day after Maduro was captured.
