A new poll shows Republican Roy Moore with a strong lead in the special election for the U.S. Senate. Moore has 49 percent of the vote, to Democrat Doug Jones's 41 percent, according to a voter survey conducted by Montgomery-based Cygnal. Moore and Jones were running even in the Birmingham metro, Jones's home base, while Moore has double digit leads in the state's other metros. The telephone survey was conducted October 2-5, with 497 voters. It has a margin of error of ±4.4%
