Ivey Declares Flu Health Emergency

Gov. Kay Ivey Thursday declared a state public health emergency due to the flu outbreak.  Ivey's  declaration directs the state Department of Public Health and the Emergency Management Agency to seek federal assistance as needed.  It also allows health care facilities that have invoked emergency operation plans to implement their "alternative standard of care" plans to combat the outbreak.    Briarwood Christian School announced classes would be canceled on Friday due to large numbers of students and staff who are out sick.
