Birmingham Won't Get Amazon HQ

Birmingham Thursday was eliminated from consideration, as Amazon narrowed the list of possible sites for its second headquarters.   Retired UAB economist Bob Robicheaux says he's not surprised, since Birmingham lacks an effective public transit system, and a unified government.   Jefferson County committed $50,000 to the failed bid.   County Commissioner David Carrington--who helped lead the effort-- says he has no regrets.  "I think we won, in that we were able to get the state, county, cities, UAB, the education and business community, all working together on a common goal in a very short period of time. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin says the lessons learned from the bid will be used in future industrial recruitment campaigns.  20 cities are still in the running for the headquarters, and its 50,000 jobs, including Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas.
