Title of Submission: The Ever-changing Life of a Sportscaster
Every day, Wade Smith brings a passion for sports to our airways. He adds a presence never seen before on WERC to Alabama’s largest radio news team. Wade’s knowledge of local, regional, and national sports allows for him to be an incredible asset when covering all sporting news. From breaking news during our live, local morning shows to the biggest stories that are discussed on The 5th Quarter Show, WERC Sports Director Wade Smith brings his A-Game every time.
Wade’s vast experience in the Sports Radio and TV world allows for him to be a jack of all trades for the station. From voicing morning sportscasts to hosting a long form sports talk show focusing on high school football in Birmingham and the state of Alabama as a whole. In addition, Wade was an asset for the entire iHeartRadio brand nationally as he was the go reporter for SEC football coverage especially during SEC Media Days and the SEC Championship Weekend.
The audio submission includes our WERC Sports Director in 4 different capacities.
The first piece of the submission includes Wade doing a typical sports report for WERC. These reports run 2 times an hour during our morning show Alabama’s Morning News with JT. The reports typically only run for around 60 seconds so story choice is key on the fly.
The second piece of the submission is a portion of Wade’s High School Coverage. Our listeners desire not only college and pro information but news pertaining to the schools that their children attend. Wade provides that during the High School football season.
The third piece of the submission includes our morning show host JT coming to Wade live during the show to talk about his experiences covering the SEC Media Days 2017.
And lastly, when sports becomes the biggest story of the day in Birmingham, our host uses Wade not only as the Sports Director but an expert in the field. The fourth piece is an example of this type of coverage from Wade.
