Jones: Arming Teachers "Dumbest Idea"

Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) strongly criticized a proposal to arm teachers, in response to the Florida school massacre.  "It's the dumbest idea I've ever heard," Jones said during a Monday appearance in Mobile.  "I think it''s crazy."  Referring to the mass shootings at a high school in Parkland, Fla. and elsewhere, Jones said, "You don't need to arm America in order to stop this, you just need to be smart about it."  State Rep. Will Ainsworth (R-Guntersville), who is running for lieutenant governor, has introduced a bill designating a teacher or administrator at each school who would be in possession of a concealed pistol, and undergo law enforcement training.   Gov. Kay Ivey Tuesday expressed skepticism about the idea, saying teachers "have got their hands full being teachers ... I just think there's some other way to provide protection."
