Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) Wednesday announced he will support President Trump's nomination of CIA Director Mike Pompeo to be Secretary of State. Jones said Pompeo "has the skills required to meet the weighty and urgent demands facing our State Department today." He said Pompeo's tenure at the CIA showed that he is "an effective manager and operator on the world stage." Pompeo already had the votes needed for confirmation, after several other red state Democrats had declared their support. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) scheduled a Thursday confirmation vote for Pompeo.
