Attorney General Jeff Sessions is facing mounting criticism from Republicans, including President Trump, who this week expressed regrets about choosing him for the job. But Congressman Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) Thursday said much of the criticism is misguided. "The Department of Justice should be the most independent part of the government," Palmer said. "It should always be about the rule of law. It is not a political office." President Trump and others have criticized Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, and not opening a new probe of Hillary Clinton. Appearing on the Sean Hannity Show, heard on News Radio 105.5 WERC, Newt Gingrich said he had been a strong supporter of Sessions, but has conlcuded he can no longer be effective. "Attorney General Sessions, simply is not capable of doing the job he ought to be doing," Gingrich said. Speaking in Plymouth, Mich. Sessions made no mention of the criticism, offering only praise for President Trump and the administration.
