Business Council of Alabama Loses Key Members

The Business Council of Alabama Wednesday suffered another high-profile loss in membership, amid a conflict over the politically powerful group's leadership.    Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama became the latest company to cut ties with the BCA, following similar announcements from Alabama Power and Regions Bank.     The state's largest health insurance company issued a statement:

"Blue Cross has consistently participated at a high level of support of the BCA and its activities. At this time, the correct path for our company and our customers is to withdraw from the BCA while the organization considers its future path."

Some BCA members are pushing for the ouster of longtime president Bill Canary, who they feel is ineffective, while the organization's leaders want a more orderly transition of power.
