More than two dozen people were arrested in an operation targeting violent crime in the Bessemer area, authorities said. "And when we catch a felon with a gun ... they're going to prison for a long time, it's not negotiable," Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale said. Operation Focused Remedy also confiscated more than 20 guns, many of which were stolen, investigators said. "We are targeting our worst offenders, and are finding the folks who are illegally possessing firearms," U.S. Attorney Jay Town said. "They're the ones doing the shooting, they're the ones trading those firearms for dope and other things, these are the worst in the business." More arrests were expected.
