The star witness Tuesday took the stand in a corruption case. Disgraced former state Rep. Oliver Robinson (D-Birmingham) testified at the trial of three men accused of bribing him. Robinson says the men wanted him to use his influence to block the expansion of an EPA cleanup site in north Birmingham. Drummond Company executive David Roberson is on trial in federal court, along with Balch and Bingham attorneys Joel Gilbert and Steven McKinney. Robinson, who copped a plea, said Gilbert gave him talking points to help orchestrate public opposition. Prosecutors say the men hatched the scheme to help Drummond avoid millions of dollars in cleanup costs.
