Trussville Woman Charged in Dog's Death

A Trussville woman Thursday was arrested and charged with a felony after leaving a dog to die in a sweltering car, police said.   Stephanie Shae Thomas, 34, admitted leaving the animal in her car, which sat outside the Trussville Walmart for nearly eight hours, investigators said.  Officers were called to the scene, after shoppers noticed the dog suffering in the back seat of the woman's Mercedes sedan.  Police say the dog was still alive when it was removed from the car, but died a short time later.   Detectives say an investigation revealed Thomas parked the car at approximately 4 a.m., and didn't return until shortly after noon.   Thomas said she simply lost track of the time while shopping, investigators said.   She is free on $25,000 bond.
