More ATM Thieves Nabbed in Hoover

An additional two people are in custody charged in connection with an ATM theft in Hoover where shots were fired at an officer.

Jason Alan Shafer and Stacy Mae Morris Shafer have now been linked to the crime in evidence uncovred by the Hoover PD.

Jason Shafer is charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree receiving stolen property.

Stacy Shafer is charged with second-degree burglary, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

The suspects were apprehended Tuesday night by U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Birmingham Police in Zion City, just north of the Birmingham Airport.

They were initially taken to the Hoover City Jail but will be transferred to the Jefferson County Custody.

George Franklin Staples III and Eddie Charles Medley have already been charged.

According to officials, on July 12th the suspects stole the ATM from inside the Walgreens on John Hawkins Parkway and Ross Bridge Parkway.

Both men can be seen on security cameras stealing the ATM and loading it onto a truck.

An officer attempting to stop the truck was fired on by one of the suspects, while another hit the offcere’s patrol car.

The suspects then fled in the dark with the lights off to the their truck.  About a mile away near the Highway 150 intersection with Pyne Drive, the thieves abandoned the truck leaving the ATM still in back.

Staples is charged with attempted murder, second-degree burglary, first-degree theft of property and obstructing justice using false identity.

Medley is charged with attempted murder, second-degree burglary, first-degree theft of property and receiving stolen property.

Both are in the Jefferson County Jail, where they will be joined by Jason Alan Shafer and Stacy Mae Morris Shafer.
