Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale Thursday announced that his office will become the first in Alabama to equip all marked cruisers with automated external defibrillators. The devices can restore a regular heart rhythm during cardiac arrest. "We're here for public safety, our job is to protect all of our citizens," Hale said. "Investing in AEDs is just one more step in providing our officers with a tool that can save someone's life." The devices will be purchased from Cardiac Solutions. The goal is to get the devices in the cruisers beginning Oct. 5.
