Vestavia Hills Teacher Honored

A Vestavia Hills educator Wednesday won "the Oscar of teaching."  Heather Hurt, a fifth grade teacher at Vestavia Hill Elementary Central, received the Milken Educator Award, during an assembly at the school.  The Milken Family Foundation's chairman, Lowell Milken, made the announcement, which was kept as a surprise.  Hurt was recognized for a creative approach that keeps students engaged.  "I try to give my students input, " Hurt said.  "I love what I do!"   The award comes with a $25,000 cash prize.   Hurt is the only Alabama teacher to receive the award this year.
