Birmingham City Council No Funding for Shelter

Some councilors say there are allegations from some workers at the Firehouse Shelter, accusing management of discrimination against them as well as some clients. So, the council voted down spending one million dollars to help the Firehouse Shelter's fundraising goal of 6 million dollars for a new facility. Mayor Randall Woodfin says the Council's behavior was "beyond disappointing". He posted on social media: "playing politics with a serious issue like homelessness is unconscionable especially as temperatures are quickly falling.”
