UAB Medical West is moving to McCalla. The hospital will leave its longtime home in Bessemer, and relocate to land near I-459. Medical West had selected that location, before considering a move to Hoover. That deal fell through after some Hoover city councilors balked at the mayor's $20-million dollar incentive package. County Commission President Jimmie Stephens says he's relieved the hospital won't be headed to Hoover. "It's important for the entire western Jefferson County region to have access to good quality ," Stephens said. "Had this [hospital] moved, it would've been disastrous for the people in western Jefferson County. Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato says he's confident the city will have "many other opportunities."
