Western Supermarkets Closing

A longtime Birmingham grocery chain is closing.  Western Supermarkets Friday announced that it's  going out of business, after 70 years.   Rival grocer Publix is buying two Western locations in Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook. The decision to close was apparently forced by competition from bigger chains, including Publix.   "We've  taken Western as far as we can," owner Ken Hubbard said.
