Jones' Approval Rating Falls: Poll

Alabama's junior senator is losing support, a new poll shows.    The approval rating for Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) plunged to 40 percent in the latest survey of voters by Morning Consult.   That represents a drop of seven percentage points since a poll taken in early 2018, shortly after Jones's election.  The poll found that 35 percent disapprove of Jones, while 20 percent had no opinion.   Political observers say Jones alienated many voters in the heavily Republican state by opposing the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.   More recently, questions have been raised about Democrats' use of Russian-style disinformation tactics on social media during the 2017 special election.   The effort was aimed at hurting Republican Roy Moore by falsely suggesting he support a statewide ban on alcohol, and encouraged Republicans to write-in a  candidate on their ballots.   Both Moore and Jones have called for a federal investigation.   Jones is widely seen as the most vulnerable Democratic senator running in the 2020 election cycle.
