Former Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey Dies

Former Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey has died, city officials announced Tuesday.   The cause of death was not immediately revealed.  Ivey, 63, served on the city council starting in 2004.   He was council president in 2011, when then-mayor Tony Petelos stepped down to become county manager; the council named Ivey as mayor.  Ivey, who also served as president and CEO of Crest Cadillac, ran unopposed in 2012,   He was defeated in 2016, by Frank Brocato, who currently serves as mayor.   The city posted the following statement on Twitter:  "We are saddened to learn that former Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey passed away yesterday at his home.  Our prayers are with Mayor Ivey's family and friends."
