2019 Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast: Leah Brandon

Leah Brandon anchors all local newscasts inside WERC’s Morning Show, “Alabama’s Morning News with JT” weekday mornings 6-9 and all local casts inside the Glenn Beck show 9-11am on WERC. Her Local Newscast at the top of the hour follows traffic, weather and network (National) news. The following is an aircheck of Leah’s 10:00 AM Newscast on Wednesday, July 18th 2018. She strives to serve our listeners daily by selecting stories she thinks are relevant to our local community, and telling those stories in an informative and entertaining way.

Introduction begins with top local story...on this date... a touching story of a dedicated employee who found himself without transportation the day before his first day on a new job. Undeterred, Walter Carr took it upon himself to walk 20 miles to work. The story has a happy ending when he is assisted first by local police and then by the CEO of Bellhops who gives Carr his own personal vehicle. The actualities are Carr that Leah used were lifted from an in-studio interview WERC did with him on our morning show earlier that morning.

The second story brings us the latest on a water main break that snarled traffic on a busy road and left many area residents without water for several days.

The final story is about a policy change at Birmingham schools regarding school uniforms.
