A Birmingham policeman was arrested and charged with sex crimes, investigators said. The suspect was identified as Sergeant Randy Martinez of Kimberly, a 20-year veteran of the force. The Birmingham Police Department said it was alerted that criminal investigations were being conducted by the Kimberly and Fultondale police departments. "After learning of the allegations, Sgt. Martinez was placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigations," Sgt. Johnny Williams said. "Upon receiving confirmation of the warrants, Sgt. Martinez was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail." Kimberly police said an investigation was opened after the alleged victim came forward last year. Martinez is facing sodomy charges. He was being held at the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $80,000.
