An off-duty Vestavia Hills policeman was murdered Thursday night, authorities said. Officer Andy Kimbrel, 42, was gunned down at the Woodbrook Apartments in Gardendale, investigators said. The officer's wife -- 43-year old Stephanie Keller -- was charged with the killing, and ordered held on $100,000 bond. Kimbrel had been with the department since 2002, and worked as a school resource officer at Vestavia Hills Elementary West and Vestavia Hills High School. He was remembered as an officer who was popular with students, teachers, parents, and his fellow officers. "Andy was a great, community-loving guy" Vestavia police Capt. Johnny Evans said. "He loved kids, he loved all people. He chose this profession because he wanted to serve people, and protect people."
