Employment in Alabama remains at record levels, the state said Friday. The Alabama Department of Labor said there were 2,139,379 people working in April, an increase of more than 6,700 from the previous month. The unemployment rate edged up slightly to 3.8 percent, from March's all-time low of 3.7 percent. Shelby County had the lowest jobless rate, at 2.4 percent. The report also showed growth in average weekly earnings and high-wage industry jobs.
