Moore Joins Alabama Senate Race

Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore Thursday announced that he's again running for the U.S. Senate. Moore made his announcement in Montgomery, accompanied by wife Kayla. "I fought for our country in Vietnam, I fought for our country and its laws as Chief Justice, I fought for morality to preserve our moral institutions, and I'm ready to do it again," Moore said.

President Trump has discouraged Moore from getting into the race, citing his narrow loss to Democrat Doug Jones in the 2017 special election for the seat. But Moore Thursday insisted that he can win. Moore joins a Republican field that includes Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Fairhope), former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville, and state Rep. Arnold Mooney (R-Indian Springs). Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill is expected to declare his candidacy next week.
