Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) and other GOP members of Alabama's congressional delegation Wednesday supported a Democrat-sponsored resolution rebuking President Donald Trump's withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria. Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), Martha Roby (R-Montgomery), and Mike Rogers (R-Saks), joined the delegation's lone Democrat, Rep. Terri Sewell of Birmingham, in supporting the measure. It passed the House 354-60. All votes against the resolution came from Republicans. A poll by The Economist showed that 57 percent of Republicans support the President's policy. Senate Republicans Thursday blocked Democrat-backed efforts to pass the symbolic measure in that chamber. Also Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence announced a ceasefire by Turkish forces in Syria. President Trump hailed it as "a great day for the Kurds," and for civilization.
