Charges Upgraded in Homewood Student's Death

Charges have been upgraded for a suspect in the Aniah Blanchard case. Ibraheem Yazeed is now charged with capital murder, Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes said Monday. He added that prosecutors will seek the death penalty. An autopsy showed that Blanchard, a Homewood college student, was shot. She was abducted from an Auburn convenience store last month. Blanchard's body was found last week in Macon County. "It's my intention that the response to this horrific crime serve as a warning to anyone, anyone who believes they want to come to Lee County and engage in violent criminal behavior," Hughes said. "You will certainly be deal with, and consequences will be severe. And this case is going to be a testament to that."
