Alabama's Senators Split on Impeachment Trial Vote

Alabama's U.S. Senators Wednesday split on the final votes at President Trump's impeachment trial. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) voted to convict the President on both articles of impeachment, and remove him from office. The vote is expected to create a major hurdle for Jones as he seeks reelection in Alabama, where polls show overwhelming support for the President. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa) voted "not guilty" on both articles, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Senate voted 52-48 in favor of acquittal on the first article; the vote was 53-47 on the second. The acquittal ends the trial, and keeps President Trump in office.
