Birmingham's mask ordinance Friday was extended by two weeks, as city councilors expressed concerns over a rising number of coronavirus cases. Councilors, however, reduced the fine, which had been $500. Under the revised ordinance, violators faces a fine of $25 for the first offense, $100 for the second offense, and $250 for any additional offenses. The state health department reported 522 new coronavirus cases Friday, including 42 in Jefferson County.
