Gov. Kay Ivey Wednesday approved the use of Alabama National Guardsmen to assist authorities respond to emergencies in Louisiana and Wisconsin. Four Black Hawk helicopters will be dispatched to Louisiana to assist with the response to Hurricane Laura. The hurricane was forecast to make landfall near the Louisiana-Texas state line after midnight as a dangerous Category Four storm. Ivey is also authorizing the deployment of up to 350 military police to Wisconsin, which has endured several nights of rioting, after the shooting of a black suspect by police in Kenosha. At least three people were shot, including two fatally.
